Asthma Medication - Don’t Abuse It!
Asthma medication has become a safety net for sufferers and there is no doubt that it has helped to save more than one life.
The value of asthma medication cannot be understated yet there is still an underlying feeling many asthmatics rely on them to much.
By this, relying on medication seems to give a false sense of security and can lead to unnecessary risks being taken. Prevention is better than cure in many cases and this also applies to asthma sufferers.
Part of managing one’s asthma is preventative measures. There is no sense in continually using medication if on many occasions, problems can be avoided. This involves recognizing what triggers set off attacks in a person’s life and then adjusting their lifestyle accordingly.
Asthma medication certainly has a vital role in this management process.
The Safety Net
Your asthma medication can mean the difference between life or death. So make sure you get to your doctor if you have any problems with wheezing, coughing or catching your breath, particularly when you are exercising or have just finished exercising. Avoid stepping out into cold air if it has a history of setting off attacks.
Becoming complacent can cost you big time. Sometimes feeling indestructible simply because one hasn’t suffered an attack for quite some time shouldn’t be a reason to start taking unacceptable risks.
Using Medication When Appropriate
Asthma is a treatable disease however, a cure is still some way off. By managing your trigger points you have gone a long way to keeping it under control. Understandably, some triggers like pollen are very difficult to avoid and this is when your asthma medication comes into it’s own.
Having your medication with you at all times is imperative. You should make it the first thing you grab before leaving your home.
Combine good management practices and asthma medication and you can significantly increase your quality of life. Abusing your medication though could have serious ramifications.
