When my son and I enrolled in a martial arts class, this is what we did. We also met with the instructor so that we could see what his main philosophy was and what the goals were for the class. At first, I wanted my son to attain acceptable levels of self-discipline so that it would pervade every aspect of his life, especially school. Believe it or not, when you are self-disciplined every aspect of your schoolwork improves. You are also more goal-oriented in doing your homework because you are more self-disciplined.
I noticed the improvement in my son’s performance in school almost immediately. He also developed a certain air of self-confidence about himself. The martial arts class also helped us develop a strong bond which we have to this very day because we shared something special between just the two of us. My daughters also tried their hand at martial arts, but they did not remain disciplined enough and soon dropped out.
